Multiplier 2.000 — the shop rule rounds this to 2. Shrink 0.268 per inch of rise.
  1. Add the shrink to your layout measurement and put mark 1 there: measurement + 1 5/8.
  2. Put mark 2 further along the pipe by 12 in.
  3. Arrow on mark 1, bend to 30°. Turn the pipe over, arrow on mark 2, bend the same angle back the other way.

    Before you type — how to measure the rise
    1. Lay the pipe where it will run and find the obstruction it has to step past. The rise is how far the run has to move over — from the centre of the pipe where it is now to the centre of where it has to end up. Centre to centre, not edge to edge.
    2. Measure from the end of the pipe to where the first bend needs to start. That is your layout measurement; the shrink below gets added to it.
    3. Pick the angle: 30° for most box and panel offsets, 45° when the rise is deep and the run is short, 22.5° or 10° when there is room and you want an easy pull. The multiplier and the shrink both come from that choice.
